Dr. Uzelac has been working as research fellow at the Culture and Communication Department of the Institute for International Relations in Zagreb since 1993. She has been taking part in IMO research projects - Contemporary Civilisational Changes and Development of Croatia (1993-1996), Improvement of the International Relations of Croatia: Communication and Cultural Aspects (1997-2001), Media, Communication and Cultural Aspects of Civil Society (2002-2006). Since 2006 she has been Head of the Department for Culture and Communication.
Her research interests focus on the impact of ICT on cultural issues, virtual networks and portals, digitalisation of culture, organization of knowledge in the cultural field and issues of public domain and cultural heritage, cultural information, cultural management and cultural cooperation issues.
Since 2000 her research activities were combined with practical initiatives aimed at developing the e-culture infrastructure in Croatia. Uzelac was the initiator of the CultureNet Croatia project in 2000 - the virtual centre for cultural information, a project initiated jointly by the Open Society Institute Croatia and the Ministry of Culture. As of 2001 she has been a member of the steering board for the portal development. Based on investigation of concrete cultural practice, her interest developed towards virtual networks and portals and the changing context that virtual culture has brought to cultural policies. Her present interest centers on the impacts of globalization and commercialization of society and the virtual sphere of cultural diversity.
She is member of the Culturelink Network team since 1993 and member of the Editorial Board of the Culturelink review. She has been involved with different networks working in areas related to digital culture such as Lab for Culture, On-the-Move and Culturemondo Network.
