Library and Information / Documentation Service of the Institute for International Relations - IMO, Zagreb, Croatia

• Mission

The purpose of the Library and INDOC is to provide reference, advisory and bibliographic assistance, primarily to IMO's researchers in support of the aims of the Institute, i.e. to increase public awareness of the most important policy issues in the fields of international relations and communication, and of the international position of Croatia.

The Library provides information services that are timely, objective and non-partisan. It is also open to the general public with the goal of contributing to the development of an informed democratic and civil society.

• History

The Library with Information / Documentation Service (INDOC) was founded in 1963 as the Library of the then Institute for African Studies.

• Holdings

The IMO Library contains over 11,300 books, over 100 periodicals (journals, magazines, newspapers, and newsletters) and a large number of documents and official publications of international organizations on economics, international co-operation, development, political science, resource economics, environmental protection, culture and communication, etc.

Following current research interests the library has also developed collections in European studies, international relations and transformation processes in Central and Eastern European countries. There are special collections in African Studies, issues related to developing countries, and various aspects of development processes.

• Databases

Before 1986 the library holdings had been catalogued in the classical way, while from 1986 to 1990 it was catalogued in a database especially developed for the needs of the Institute.

Since 1991 the data on the library fund have been saved in three databases: the database of selected journal articles , the database of books and the database of documents. The application for these databases in CDS-ISIS was created at the Department for Library and Information Sciences of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Zagreb.

From 2007 on, the users can search the library catalogue online - e-Library Catalogue.
