Department for European Integration

Fields of Study

The Department for European Integration, established in 1989, is devoted to interdisciplinary scientific research of the integration process in Europe.

Research is focused on the European Union, its economic, legal and political development, as well as relations with non-member countries, with special emphasis on candidate countries and Croatia. Attention is also given to other regional organisations, programmes and initiatives, especially those relevant for Croatia (such as CEFTA and initiatives for South-Eastern Europe) and the adjustment process to the EU.

Activities

In addition to scientific research, the Department is engaged in developing information services and in education in the field of European Studies.

In order to develop information sources concerning EU developments and the activities in Croatia, the Department undertakes regular publishing activities and co-ordinates the work of the EU i Documentation Centre. These activities are aimed at facilitating a continuous flow of information about the EU and the activities of the Department.

Information dissemination is a prerequisite for the development of the educational activities of the Department, which are carried out through the organisation of seminars, workshops and conferences, as well as through participation in education programmes of other institutions (e.g. University of Zagreb). Higher education of researchers, and their participation at seminars and conferences is also encouraged.

In the carrying out of its projects, the Department cooperates with a number of partner institutions and organizations in Croatia and abroad.

These include government bodies (e.g. the Ministry of science, education and sports, the Ministry of foreign affairs and European integration), Chambers of Commerce (e.g. the Croatian Chamber of Commerce as well as regional chambers), Universities (the Universities of Zagreb, Split, Rijeka and Osijek), research institutes, non-governmental organizations (European movement Croatia, SMEs and Entrepreneurship Policy Center - CEPOR)
